Hundreds of visitors want to know who decorated the Highfiled model home at Renaissance Pointe. Its Lori Mason, a professional home stager and decorator. She has decorated and staged over 60 Ideal Builders model homes and a host of others private homes in the past two years. Her remarkable work is characterized by the lively use of the surrounding environment, natural home features, lighting, textures and color to create a theme and feeling in the home that is simply unforgettable.

Lori believes, it is important to keep one key principal in mind when decorating a new model home or redesigning a home which is already lived in. “Define the best interior feature or focal point of the home and make it shine,” she says. Each time she walks into a home Lori thinks, “What or where do I want my eyes to be drawn to?” Then she considers the style of the home and asks herself, “What is the home’s personality and character?”

One way to give you a visual of comparing homes personalities or character is to compare the simplicity of Pottery Barn furnishings to a streamlined modernistic style of IKEA. Each of these stores caters to specific homes and home owner’s personalities and style. If you are drawn to a specific home furnishings store (or section of furnishings in a larger furnishing department store), this will help you determine your preferred style.

Once the focal point is determined, and the personality or style to be achieved or enhanced is selected, the color palette is decided. Again, she looks for an object (painting, pillow, rug, or other accessory) that she or the client is drawn to. The object is combined with any upholstered pieces of furniture placed in the room then the general color is selected for the room. Before she selects the specific shade of color, natural light and size of the room is considered.

The Highfield model home at Renaissance Pointe provides a modern cottage style. Architectural details, such as; interior column supports, trim, and door facings determined the style of this home. The fireplace is the focal point as you enter the home. The kitchen, dining and living room are arranged in an open floor plan that provides an easy, informal flow. Two archways lead you to the central foyer. French glass doors connect this space to the den. The natural light flows abundantly through this living space.

“My inspiration for color came from a picture I admired.” Lori says. The large print of the bird, along with the upholstered sofa and chair determined the color palette for this home. Cotswold Green and Sunny Haze were two colors chosen to enhance this homes warmth and charm. The medium toned wood floor, neutral carpet and white trim were considered also when selecting the shade of color. Given the abundance of natural light and openness in the space, Lori selected a medium shade of green as the color for the focal point wall. Soft hues of blue and green are used throughout the home to keep one’s eye flowing and connecting from one room to another.

Overall, Lori incorporated a blend of the original 1930’s and 40’s architectural style of the Renaissance Pointe neighborhood with today’s style and décor.
